You‘re Dreaming

This might be a hard page to read because I will hit too close to home for some readers. But remember, my reason for writing this is to help you not fail in the music business. It may not seem that way if you don‘t like your answer to my question, but trust me, honest examination of your motivations now, will help you succeed in the end.

The question:

Are you sure you‘re not dreaming of being successful in the music business?

This is your life and you need to be clear about what it will take to succeed in this industry. Knowing whether you‘re dreaming or not is an important step. A truthful answer will lead to success in what you‘re meant to do.

A dream is something you think you can have without changing.

You‘re involved in a very complicated pursuit and if you‘re going to go for it, it‘s important to know what it will take to make it. This is why I‘m posing the question about dreaming. The quote above simply means that if you think you‘ll reach your goals without any effort, struggles or setbacks, you‘re wrong. This journey will require everything of you. Are you prepared for that?

Conversely, a goal is something you are willing to change for in order to attain. Are you willing to change in order to reach your goals? I promise you will have too in order to succeed. Are you prepared for that? Are you willing to do whatever it takes? I don‘t mean lying and cheating, I mean study, practice, persistence, dedication, etc., etc.

As a person with talent, you‘ve been continually been told how spectacular you are and this can get disorienting. Every time my wife‘s dad heard people tell her how wonderful she sang, he‘d quip that it was unlikely they‘d be there to pay her bills when times were tough (he was right, by they way).

Please carefully consider your answer to the question because my intent is to help you to find your rightful place IN the business. Not everyone can be 50 Cent or Prince, yet there‘s nothing like making a living by doing what you love. Chase the wrong dream and you‘ll be crushed, chase the right one and you‘ll know the peace and joy of a life well lived. And to me, that‘s the definition of success.

Follow you‘re gut on this question. You‘ll know what you are and are not willing to go through to get "what you want". That will lead

Once you know your dream, work towards it, and make sure you‘re not just Hoping.
