You‘re a Star

Let‘s face it, you want to be star or you wouldn‘t be bothering to attempt a career in the industry of music. You want to be the best in the world, fabulously wealthy, and the envy of all. You sometimes also struggle with remaining true to your artistic self and the wonderful craft called music, but overall, you want to reach the top.

Fine, but don‘t let that kill your career.

How could it? Several ways really. First, there are only so many people who will reach super stardom. I don‘t say that to discourage you, but be realistic. You will be incredibly disappointed if you think you have to reach stardom or else!

Second, people who want to be stars often make the mistake of acting like one. You can‘t be a star by acting like one, you act like a star by BEING one. You become a star by working like one and people who become stars work their butts off, all the time. You think J Lo the singer/actress/spokesmodel/entrepreneur/fashion designer/business woman isn‘t busy? Think again.

Third, and an extension of number two, I‘ve seen many people who thought most work was below them because they were going to be stars! Guess what? These people are not currently working.

Fourth, being a star is a vague and lame goal. It‘s like saying "I want to be liked". How do you really know if you‘re "liked"? How do you know for sure? Plus, can you really control "being liked"?

Be, Do, Have

The way to stardom is just like the way to being liked: First, BE a star. I‘m not contradicting what I said earlier, I‘m saying act like the type of people who become stars -- hardworking, personable, likeable (hmmm, coincidence?). Second, DO what stars do -- work your tail off because to do anything less is unthinkable. Finally, you will HAVE what stars have -- true success.

Simply put, you can‘t set your sights on the top, you have to set your sights on you and the work it takes to GET to the top.

Now, onto some things you can do to reach success by debunking the myth of The Arts vs. the Real World.
